Speed Up Seed Germination

Speed Up Seed Germination

Germination starts when a seed is provided with water, as long as the temperature, moisture, air, and light conditions are appropriate. As seeds take in water, they expand and enzymes become hydrated. Hydrated enzymes become active and the seed increases its metabolic activities to produce energy for the growth process. This process happens naturally, but what if you could speed up seed germination using a simple household substance? As it turns out, you can! [hp], a food-grade solution made in pure distilled water, can effectively increase germination speed and support the growth of strong, healthy plants. What exactly is hydrogen peroxide and why does it lead to increased germination speed? Let’s break it down.

Accelerate Seed Germination Using Hydrogen Peroxide - Oxygen Plus

Simply follow these steps:

  1. 1

Mix 30 millilitres of Hydrogen Peroxide 3% – Oxygen PlusTM for every 2 cups of water (8:1 ratio).

  2. 2

Soak the seeds in the solution overnight and then plant as usual.

  3. 3

To boost the health of your current plants, spray them with a solution of 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide 3% – Oxygen PlusTM to 32 parts water.

Chemically speaking, hydrogen peroxide (H202) is very similar in composition to water (H20)—the only difference is hydrogen peroxide has an extra atom of oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide plays a critical role in seed germination. As soon as the water is absorbed by the seed, natural peroxide levels influence several key processes that need to happen before seeds germinate. The seed coat softens by soaking your seeds in a properly diluted hydrogen peroxide solution, allowing the seeds to absorb more oxygen. This results in increased germination speed.

Due to its chemical similarity to water, hydrogen peroxide is one of the safest chemicals you can use in the garden to combat root rot. In fact, hydrogen peroxide is naturally found in rainwater and helps fend off destructive fungi, insects, and weeds and naturally promotes seed germination. Containing no chlorine, alcohols, acids, or other dangerous chemical additives found in traditional fertilizers, hydrogen peroxide is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and biodegrades completely into just oxygen and water. This makes it safe to use around your whole family, animals, and on your plants.
