As a household cleaner, it is also an effective disinfectant and is 100% Biodegradable into oxygen and water that will kill viruses, bacteria, and other germs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). After you’ve used hydrogen peroxide, make sure to leave it on the surface for at least one minute before drying to give it enough time to kill pathogens.
Hydrogen peroxide is biodegradable. It breaks down to water and oxygen upon contact with the environment, without leaving any residue behind.
If you mix equal masses of 6% Hydrogen Peroxide and water, you will get 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Since the density of Hydrogen Peroxide and water is roughly the same, you can also mix equal volumes.
No – Hydrogen Peroxide is 100% Biodegradable. Septic systems need “aerobic bacteria” to survive, and these types of bacteria grow best in an oxygen-rich environment. Rather than chlorine/bleach, which removes oxygen, Hydrogen Peroxide adds it. Therefore, manual addition of H2O2 is often done to septic and wastewater systems to prevent smells.

Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide has almost the same molecular structure as water (H2O). The only difference is that hydrogen peroxide contains an additional atom of oxygen, making its chemical structure H2O2. In the atmosphere, hydrogen peroxide is formed after oxygen combines with sunlight to become ozone. As the ozone interacts with water in the form of clouds, hydrogen peroxide is formed.
It naturally accrues in rainwater which cleanses the landscape and oxygenates the soil, lakes, and seas. With this extra atom of oxygen, hydrogen peroxide works as nature’s perfect cleanser through the process of oxidation.
